Options for Instruction
Face-to-Face Classes
Librarians teach various kinds of instruction sessions - the most common session is a faculty requested session to support research assignments. Below are some specific examples.
- 30-50 minute session supporting a hands-on research session.
- 20-30 minute session for very targeted learning outcomes for an assignment.
- 20-30 minute session overview of research processes or the information literacy framework.
- Face-to-face classes can also request research guides and learning support resources for their classes as shown below under Other Learning Support Resources from the CSM Library.
Online or Hybrid Classes
College of San Mateo librarians can provide information literacy instruction for online or hybrid classes in synchronous and asynchronous modes of delivery. For online or hybrid courses here are some synchronous options:
- 10-15 minute welcome and introduction from a CSM Librarian.
- 30-50 minute session supporting a hands-on research session.
- 20-30 minute session overview of research processes or the information literacy framework.

Other Learning Support Resources from the CSM Library
Class-based instruction can also include the development of learning objects (instructional videos, research guides (aka LibGuides), handouts, etc.) that support the learning objectives of a specific course in a semester.
